TY camping trip
On the 13th of September two major events happened in the school. One event was the junior cert results and the other was the TY camping trip. I was nervous for my results but the camping took my mind of it. When we arrived at lough Dan we set our tents up and went exploring. There was a small woods area behind our camp site which had very small park core course in it. Later that day we went on a walk. It was horrible. It was raining , windy and cold. It was a 7 km walk to our destination and back. When we got back to the camp site everyone washed up and started on making food. I mainly had noodles and rashers the whole trip. When it became dark enough we would all sit around the fire talking and having fun in general. At 10:30 we were made be in our tents and at 11 we had to be quiet , but we weren't everyone was screaming there lungs out it was a funny experience.
The Thursday morning was freezing. I woke up to people walking around my tent talking really loud. I got up got dressed and went to make some food.
Yet again I had noodles. We had a big 22km walk that day and it was actually really good. It didn't rain and it wasn't cold it was a lot of fun. After the walk when we were all back at the camp site the teachers made us all burgers. The best meal I had all trip in my opinion. The Thursday night wasn't as good as the Wednesday it rained a lot and we were made go into the barn beside our camp site. I just wanted to go to sleep so that the next day would come quicker so I could go home.
On the Friday morning we had to clean everywhere we had made a mess. But before that I tided my tent and packed all my clothes and accessories. I decided to start cleaning the kitchen area and a few other joined in after. We cleaned the whole kitchen while the others had to walk around the camp site picking up rubbish and food. When we saw the buses I got really excited until I saw one of them drive passed our camp site. Luckily the other one didn't and pulled in. I loaded my bags on and we were en route back to the school. It was an enjoyable experience. but i would go back to lough Dan ........ in better weather.
KAIROS
On Thursday the 12th of October my class, 4B traveled to Kairos to film a short tv show. Before we left we had to come up with a tv show idea, we decided on celebrity challenges. We also selected jobs and wrote scripts. My job was to work the camera I was a camera man. When we got to Kairos the man who was helping us set up everything showed me and the two other camera men how to work the cameras. It was enjoyable to be a camera man because we got to wear the headsets and listen to the producer and everything. Although we were very poor with the first couple of takes the last one came out perfect. This experience has made me consider a job in this area.
DCU open day
During the DCU open day I attended a few talks. One of those talks was sports psychology and health. I found the subject interesting for the 40 - 50 minutes I was in the class. This is something I would like to look further into because I was considering a job in this for a long time now even before I went to DCU. It was interesting to be able to walk around a school campus and see all these older people having their own freedom while studying courses they want to study. Being in a situation where I was attending lectures made me think that I would like to attend DCU in the future.
DIT open day
I found DIT very small. I didn't like the campus but the classrooms were really impressive for engaging you with your chosen subject.
Carlingford:
Last week my year ventured to Carlingford adventure center. We got the bus from our school to the center. When we arrived the instructors talked to us about our rooms and activities taking place throughout the next 4 days. When the announced the rooms we had about 15 mins to get up and put our bags in the room. I was in room 24 , I wasn't with my closest friends but it was amazing to get to know the lads a bit more. After we left our bags we went to get lunch and then of to our activities. The year was split into 2 groups A and B. I was in group A. The first activity I did was sky line. This was basically obstacles and zip lines in the sky. It was good fun and I really enjoyed it. We went back to the center at 5.30 to get dinner. After dinner we would have a night activity. My group did a quiz and challenges with one of the instructors. This was my least favorite activity we did. The night activities ended at around 8.30-9. We had to be in bed by 10.30 and lights out by 11.
The second day my group did canoeing in the morning. I don't like the water so I didn't really like this. After lunch we traveled up a steep hill to get to the laser tag area. This was the best activity I done here. My team won nearly every time and it was amusing to be able to be against the teachers. The night activity we did was night line. This was basically our group going back up the hill to a rope in the woods. Each of us had to b wear blind folds and would hold onto a rope and walk through the woods. I was at the very front passing information back to the people behind , this was really good and entertaining.
The third day the group did aeroball , archery and frisbee golf in the morning. The aeroball was definitely the best out of those. After lunch we did ziptopia. This was a number of zip lines and obstacles spread across a distance in the woods high in the trees. I was scared to do this but I forced myself to and it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. When we finished dinner my group went out and did another activity. Murder mystery. This was groups of 5 walking around the village area looking for clues and evidence to reveal the murderer. It was good to walk around the village but the activity got boring after a while.
The last day was relieving for me. I enjoyed the activities but I just wanted to go home. The final activities we did were high ropes and small group challenges. They we both enjoyable but I was to excited to leave.
To conclude I really enjoyed myself on this trip and I am looking forward to more.
