Coaching:
Over the last last 5 moths I have been helping to coach the U6 Enniskerry football team. This takes place every Saturday from 9am till 10am. First couple weeks I was nervous to go but as I got used to it I really enjoyed it. Coaching them reminds me of when I was that age playing for Enniskerry and it's a great feeling because I had a lot of fun.
Boxing:
In January I stared doing boxing outside of school on a Friday. I do it with Enniskerry boxing club. It's hard to walk into a boxing club for the first time in your life when everybody in there has been there for much longer than you. It's nerve-racking. After the first 2 weeks I got used to it and it's a really good ability and experience to have.
2nd work experience week:
For my work 2nd work experience I did work with Gary Ryan. He is an electrician and has his own company , GaryRyanelectrical. Due to the poor weather I only worked 2 days Monday and Tuesday. I found the work to be quite interesting and good to work on. The only downside to the work was the amount of hours you may have to work a day depending on how much you have to do. I really enjoyed the time I spent working as an electrician. I had done a project on this subject previous in one of my modules. It is a job I am looking into for my future.
3rd week of work experience:
For my 3rd week of work experience I worked in my mums company Coilte.
Coilte is a forestry company. They look after and sell timber. They own a massive amount of land. There process consists of growing the trees and then selling them to customers , this is a consistent loop. My mum works in the main office in the IT department , where as I worked up in the mountains such as the Dublin mountains and the Wicklow mountains. The work was different each day because I was working with different members of the company.
On the Monday I was working with Noel Kinsella , his job was to make sure the sites where trees had previously been cut down were ready for planting and making sure the contractors planted the trees properly. The work I did that day was fairly simple , I just had to walk around different planting sites with Noel as he explained what the job consisted of.
On Tuesday I was working with Richard Miley. That day was by far my favourite. We traveled up the Dublin Mountains. His job was to measure the height and width of the trees. I ended up not doing much work as there was not enough sites for us to go to. I had really interesting conversations with Richard about all the crimes committed in the Dublin Mountains. I saw a lot of places where people had been shot , buried or had burnt out cars.
On Wednesday I worked with John Byrne. I found this day a bit boring because in my opinion his job was really bad. He had to go around the Wicklow Mountains putting up safety signs. The only thing I found interesting about that day was that I got go on a harvester. A harvester is a machine kind of like a tractor but much bigger and this cut , shaved and sliced up the timber. The technological needed for the harvester is unreal. The head of the machine cost around 90 grand itself.
On Thursday I was set to work with Barry Coad . Barry is the head manager of all the forests in Dublin , Wicklow and Kildare. He doesn't do much physical work , but occasionally he goes out and checks on a few of the car parks and roads of the forest in case anything or anyone has damages or vandalized them. When I was with him we went to a meeting beside the scalp. It was an amazing feeling because it felt like I was an actual business man.
The last day I worked with Noel Kinsella again because there was no one left to take me. That was a good day for work. My conclusion of this work experience was that I admire these people for their work because there in the Mountains from 9am - 5pm most days by themselves. They are working in dangerous conditions such as being in the Dublin Mountains. Although I admire them I wouldn't like to do this in my future I found the work interesting in a way but it's just not for me.
I also worked with Aidan Walsh and Mary. They were a good laugh and made my time there easier.
